Christopher K. Williams

Thank you for visiting this website, which describes the life of its owner, Christopher Kwesi Oladipupo Williams, a citizen of the world, who is of Nigerian (Yoruba) and Ghanaian (Fanti) ancestry.

Christopher Kwesi Oladipupo Williams, MD, FRCPC

Some people, who know me as Chris Williams or Christopher Williams, often wonder why a “full-blooded African” has what they consider as “foreign names”. But they are not all that “foreign” indeed. I was given the Christian name “Christopher’ because I was born on or close to the “Christ the King Sunday”, the last Sunday of the Catholic liturgical year. “Williams”, on the other hand, is a common West African family name. It is so common that my mother, a Nigerian woman, who was “Miss Williams,” met my dad, who was also a Williams, but from the then Gold Coast, now known “Ghana”.

AORTIC

The development of the African Organisation For Research And Training In Cancer (AORTIC), which he co-founded in 1982, and reactivated in 2000, has been a career-long commitment. The AORTIC North America Webpage before 2012 tells the story of the birth of AORTIC, and its re-birth in 2000 following a period of moribundity in the 1990’s. The AORTIC Website reflects the current status of AORTIC, which now has its main office in Cape Town, South Africa.
